OVERVIEW: AFRICA CUP OF NATIONS 2019
The Trophy
Since the start of Africa Cup of Nations tournament, three different trophies have been awarded;

The first was the Abdelaziz Abdallah Salem Trophy named after the first CAF president, the trophy was made of Silver and was awarded to Ghana having being the first winners of the competition three times. The second one was a cylindrical piece with Olympic rings called the Trophy of African Unity or African Unity Cup given to CAF by the Supreme Council of Sports towards the 1980 tournament. The third and current which was revealed in 2001 and is made in Italy – it has no name.
The Format
The format for AFCON 2019 which was renamed the Total Africa Cup of Nations will be different from the competition as we know it. There will be 24 teams competing instead of 16. This comes after the CAF Executive Commission approved the propositions made under Ahmad Ahmad’s presidency in July 2017. The 2019 Total Africa Cup of Nations will start from 21 June to July, and the winner for this AFCON competition will be awarded a whopping $4.5 million.
